Alana Yabis

Hello! I’m Alana Yabis, a passionate musician and educator currently pursuing my Bachelor of Music in Music Education at Western University, where I specialize in classical percussion.

My musical journey began with the piano, the instrument that first inspired my lifelong love for music. I hold an RCM Level 8 Certificate and have performed with wind ensembles and at numerous music festivals in my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta.

For the past several years, I’ve been sharing my love of music through private piano lessons, working with young beginners as well as students with developmental disabilities. I welcome learners of all ages and abilities who want to bring music into their lives.

As a teacher, I believe music education offers more than technical skills — it provides a safe, creative space for students to explore, express, and discover their passions. My goal is to help every student build confidence, creativity, and joy through music that extends far beyond the practice room.

Sam Richards

Hi! I’m Sam, a guitarist, musician, and third-year Popular Music Studies student at Western University. I’ve been playing guitar for over 10 years, with a focus on rock, pop, and blues, while also having a background in classical guitar, music theory, songwriting, and live performance.

I’ve been teaching guitar through both in person and online private lessons, working with students at different skill levels and adapting lessons to their individual interests and goals. I believe learning guitar should be both educational and genuinely fun. While building strong fundamentals is important, I also want students to play music they actually enjoy and feel excited about picking up their guitar between lessons.

Outside of teaching, I’ve played in several bands, including my high school staff band, where we performed at school functions and events. I’ve also formed and performed with independent bands at local venues, art galleries, and community events. These experiences have given me a love for performing and collaborating with other musicians, and I enjoy bringing that real world experience into my teaching.

My goal as an instructor is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and exploring their own musical interests. Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time, learning your favourite songs, or looking to develop your technique and musicianship, I want to help you become a more confident and excited musician.
